Chair and Immediate Past Chair Report
Mary Larson (Northern Illinois
University) and William G. Christ
(Trinity University)
Normally, the Immediate Past Chair
gives a convention report at this time.
However, we felt it was more appropriate
for both of us to report to you. As we
move into 1998 there are three main MCD
projects:
- The Division has instituted two
new awards: A Teaching Award and a
Service Award. Details about these
awards will be in the February
Spectra.
- The Division's By-Laws are being
updated. In order to change the
by-laws, there has to be a vote.
This vote will take place at next
year's convention. Members should
look for a special mailing prior to
the election explaining the changes.
- The Media Literacy Task Force is
working on revising the
Association's K-12 Standards and
developing competencies for those
standards. This summer, the Task
force will move to create
"Activities" that will help teachers
demonstrate the competencies. Anyone
who would like to work on this
project should contact either Mary
Larson at
mlarson@niu.edu or William
Christ at
WCHRIST@Trinity.edu.
1997 was a very productive year for
the Division and we both look forward to
working with you in 1998.
